Lace in Wikipedia, Zoom overview | March 15 2025, 4ET/1PT US
Our first meeting will be an overview of the Enhancing Lace in WIkipedia project, with the issues and the goals of the project outlined. Although we may have time to cover a few technical things, it won’t be a training session per se.
But if you are curious about the project and are considering becoming an editor of Wikipedia, we can help you to understand the scope and the basic features of adding content, fixing typos, offering images, and sprucing up the pages in the scope of this project.
Extensive list of early lace books
While going down one rabbit hole, I happened upon another one. There was an excellent list of early lace books all in one place that I hadn’t seen before. And then I realized how many more of these patterns were already in Wikimedia Commons….
Weaving threads of Ipswich Lace history | April 26 2025
We have a big event planned to celebrate the Ipswich lacemakers and share lacemaking with the Boston area as part of the Gather Fiber Symposium 2025.
Resources and References
A lacemaker friend suggested that some resources would be handy, and I’ll keep a post with useful links to sources and places to find good references to lace topics.
This will be a work in progress, adding new things as I find them.
AI trash beginner books pollute the lace ecosystem
AI slop books are fooling beginners and outsiders to textile crafts, and probably other beginner hobby situations. Look to good sources for legit books by real people.
Lace topics needing help
A partial list of some of the suggested edits and additions that I’ve collected so far. No doubt there are more, but it’s a place to start….
High priority pages needed, Lace organizations
The major lace organizations and museums are largely absent from Wikipedia. This would really help with discovery of lace resources and the lace community.
Women in Lace: Text based research requests and tasks
Requesting research leads or work on the pages for some women who have been important in the lace and textiles arenas.
Art + Feminism training materials
Some groups have already created training materials for Wikipedia editing. You can see some of those here.
Lace Books in the Internet Archive
Resources for citations can be found at the Internet Archive. I have created some lists to make searching faster.
